What does a Business Analyst do?

Our Business Analysts are plate-spinners, defining and documenting several complex business and technology requirements at a time, often across various areas of our business. Working closely with colleagues in different departments being the link between it all.

What we ask of a Business Analyst

There are things we ask of everyone who works with us, and some that are specific to each role.  Here’s what we need from our Business Analyst.

Get the best out of the team

Think and work as one. Take ownership and provide insight when dealing with differing view points and priorities.  Manage and motivate people to reach consensus by advising and setting expectations. Support, assist and train where needed. Learn and share the new – from tech to systems and beyond.

Capture everything

Identify, record, and track document analysis in requirement sessions.  Using business process, analysis scenarios, task and workflow analysis to capture every detail.  Collaborate with our quality assurance teams and draw up testing and training plans. 
Elicit project requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements sessions, use cases, business process analysis, scenarios, task and workflow analysis.
Take ownership for, and take the lead in, the requirements gathering process.

Plan down to the last detail
Keep everything on track and on time. Work swiftly, to tight deadlines, and handle conflicting priorities – without needing to be told and all with an outgoing, approachable and professional approach. 

Keep everyone in the loop
Analyse, interpret and present complex concepts and processes from multiple sources – to keep us, and our customers, updated and identifying the true needs for the business. Stay in touch with and on top of third party suppliers. Communicate positively at all levels, inside and outside the company.

The skills and experience you bring…

You will have demonstrable experience working as a Business Analyst and being that credible “go to” person. Experience of using a number of methodologies e.g. PRINCE2 Agile, RUP & Waterfall, including business process mapping, is essential. As is experience of managing IT and business process change projects.

You’ll relish working in all kinds of ways with all kinds of people, and build relationships with the internal business and technical users alike. You gladly juggle and multitask across lots of strands of work with varying priorities.

You love communicating – listening, explaining and diving into group discussions. And you write in a way that’s easy to understand and digest – and can analyse and interpret all manner of information, including numerical.

You will know your way around programs such as Microsoft Office, Project & Visio.
